Help us provide Incentive for Innovation

Please join with others across the country and around the world who are donating to this historic, innovative cause. Just as we have a deep and abiding faith that ordinary people can solve these Problems, we have the same faith that people around the world will help financially and raise the Award money to reward their innovation.  The concept is quite simple:

If an inventor came to you with a vial containing the cure for breast cancer said “give me XX amount of money and I will give this away to the world for free and we’ll be done with breast cancer just like we are done with polio,” what would you do?

For most people, the answer is easy: you would find a way to give the inventor the money. Simply put, there is no shortage of motivation for society or its members to raise the money to pay the Awards.

In a very real way, that is what The Dewey Foundation Awards are saying to you… “Help us raise enough money that an inventor will develop a solution in order to win our Award.”

We are totally focused on results, not activities. We won’t pay out one dime of your money in an Award until there is an actual solution.

Isn’t that consistent with your values?  Isn’t that consistent with the way things actually get done?  Isn’t that consistent with the entrepreneurial spirit of people around the world?

Do you believe this innovative new approach can work?

A billion dollars may sound like a lot of money, but in the grand scheme of things, it is a very modest amount.  Charitable giving in the United States alone is more than a quarter of a TRILLION dollars per year !!   Imagine that, more than $250 Billion every year just in America, and still, we don’t have a solution for these Problems.

We believe these $1 Billion Awards will generate as much as $100 Billion in effort; focused like a laser on these specific problems. That is a very good deal.

Is it a lot of money? Think about these statistics:

  • If each of the families directly affected by breast cancer would contribute $50, we would raise $500 million. Has your family been affected by breast cancer?
  • If each of the approximately 20 million Americans with diabetes thought this innovative approach to finding a cure was worth contributing $25, we would raise $500 million. Do you or a loved one have diabetes?
  • If every person who thinks gasoline costs too much would contribute the equivalent of 10 gallons of gas, we would raise far more than $1 Billion. Do you think gas costs too much?
  • If every person concerned about greenhouse emissions affecting our environment would contribute $25, we would raise far more than $1 Billion. Are you concerned about the environment?
